TRJE's concerts and workshops explore the music, dance and song of the Malinké people of West Afrika. In playing music from the Malinké heartland in Guinea and Mali, and the Diaspora of nine West Afrikan nations, our students explore an authentic, living tradition, as they develop supportive working relationships with peers, community elders, and traditional Mandé master artists.
During their first five seasons, the 27-plus 7 to 17 year olds who comprise the ensemble have played at more than 300 venues in four states, to crowds in excess of 75,000 persons. In the fall of 2001 TRJE released a self-titled CD. Their second CD, Honoring the Tradition, was released in the fall of 2003. In September 2007, their third CD, The Sound of Our Joy, will be released.
